SIGHTS IN BARCELONA

What?  Why?  Hint
Montjuic  One of the two "house mountains" of Barcelona. It is a lovely vantage point over Barcelona with a park and many wider sights.
Poble Espanyol  "Pueblo Espanol" is a collection of famous copies of buildings from all regions of Spain.   Photos and further information
Palau de la Musica  If one liked to see one of the best examples of the Catalan Modernisme, the visit is a must. It was built by Domenech I Muntaner who also built the beautiful hospital "San Pau". He has left his masterpiece here.
Ramblas  Barcelona's famous strolling mile which probably did not ever miss any Turist leads to the sea from the Placa Catalunya to the place with the Kulumbus monument. Look, be astonished, stroll, drink a cup of coffee and take the sights along on the left and right.   Fotos
La Boqueria  One should certainly go to a lively and famous covered market on the right shortly before the end of the Rambla. Fruit, cheeses, fish, candy, nuts, everyhing the spoilt Catalan palate likes, one finds here at many stands.
Plaza Real  An inconspicuous short lane lists on the left approximately in the middle the Rambla, on the "Plaza Real". It is an old, square place, surrounded by restaurants by palms and interesting architecture. The central lamps are manufactured by the architect Gaudi.
Statue of Columbus  Shortly before the sea, the Rambla leads to a round place in the middle with the Kolumbusstatue which is built on the occasion of the world exhibition 1888 and 50 meters high. One also can climb this statue. The view of above is remarkable. The statue was built for the memory of the return of Columbus after his first trip to America. The return took place in Barcelona. The royal couple Ferdinand and Isabel welcomed him at that time.
Liceu Opernhaus  One of the most famous opera houses in Europe, such as the Milan Scala. Unfortunately, the house has burned except for the foundation walls in 1994. It was built again within the old façades in the old gleam. Guids are offered in the opera house.
Port Olympic  The beaches of the Olympic village and the port area are probably the good and known of Barcelona. Directly by the sea, along the port in which many sail and engine ships are dropped to anchor, are many fish restaurants. There is one of the best restaurants of this type also. A walk is pleasant and stimulating at day and night.
Port Vell  The old industry port has been changed into a spare time domain on the occasion of the Olympic Games. One finds an Imax cinema, a remarkable aquarium, some purchase opportunities, and many restaurants. Everything is in a short distance to the Rambla. Therefore this area is one of the most frequented in Barcelona. The connection is created over a pretty bridge construction which consists of steel and wood and is embedded in the sea environment agreeably.   Photos and further information
