Castells are the dangerous and spectacular man castles which are built traditionally by Equips (katalan. colles) from different towns in Catalonia to high celebrations. They can up to 9 "stories" highly be in which the people are younger (and slimmer) on the upper stories and a little child finally functions as top of the tower.
In Catalan the word Castell means "castle" in which a Castell is called Torre (tower) with two persons per level. Pilar (pillar), if it only consists of a person per level. Castells are determined by the number of the persons of the base and the number of the levels mainly. A Castell can consist of different elements: Pinya: The thick set of persons who form the base of the tower. This is the level on which most persons of the Castells are. Her task is carrying the second level and temper the impact if somebody should fall down. Anxaneta (rider): The child who forms the top of the pyramid. Folre: The second level. Manilles: The third level. Agulla (needle): One Pilar in the middle of the real Castells which stops while the outer parts of the Castells are dismantled. Castells were already built with up to 10 levels.
